Drilling and the FINIS Swimmer's Snorkel
In swimming, the hardest part of every stroke is conquering the breath. Particularly in freestyle, coordinating the timing of the breath, position of the head and body movement is quite difficult. The FINIS Swimmer’s Snorkel eliminates the complicated breath and allows the swimmer to keep their head in a perfect swimming position. With no need to turn the head or body in order to breathe, the possibilities for advancing swim technique dramatically open up. Drills especially become much easier to master with the assistance of a Swimmer’s Snorkel. The following freestyle drill progression with the Swimmer’s Snorkel can help tremendously with making your freestyle as effective as possible.
Try using the Swimmer's Snorkel to complete the following drills!
Sculling
With your Snorkel and Agility Paddles on, scull with your hands in front while focusing on keeping high elbows. Keep your head still with a very light kick. This will strengthen the shoulders and work on high elbows.
Long Arm Dog Paddle
As it sounds, this drill is a glorified dog paddle since arms will never break the surface of the water. With your Snorkel and Agility Paddles on, reach one arm at a time as far as possible underwater. Pull the hand as a normal freestyle stroke to your hips then recover again underwater in front of you. Keep high elbows in mind and try to lengthen your stroke as much as possible.
Finally, try swimming freestyle. With your Snorkel and Agility Paddles (see our ebay store for details) on, work on stroke length, high elbows, still head, and powerful strokes.
