    Description

    CLASSIC GEOLOGY!!
This is USGS Professional Paper 366,
Ash-Flow Tuffs: Their Origin, Geologic Relations, and Identification
. Published in 1961, this 81-page book is the one book that took the varied ideas about volcanic rocks and distilled them in to a clearer picture.
Until this book, the nature of huge ash-flow tuffs, and their origins was not clear, mainly because the giant eruptions of the geologic past that produced huge packages of tuffs simply had not been observed in the relatively few years that geology existed as a science. Basically, geologists had no idea of the scale of certain kinds of volcanic events, or of the processes of welding, compaction, and crystallization that go with them. This book brought together many observations, helped clarify terminology, and explained many of the processes
    involved
    in these huge rock-forming events.
The book is great because one of the first sections involves the vocabulary associated with these rocks, so the reader is not left wondering what terms mean. In addition, the many photographs (nearly 100 figures are provided) have clear explanations of the features
    within
the rocks. I've been a geologist for years, but when I finally got ahold of this I finally felt like I understood these complex rocks and could see them in the field with some
    understanding
of them. It's a great book
Expert packing assured. Shipping weight is one p
ound. Media Mail is provided to save you some money.
