    Description

    CLASSIC REPORT ON PORPHYRY SKARNS!!
This is USGS Professional Paper 798-C,
Geology and Geochemistry of the West Ore Body and Associated Skarns, Copper Canyon Porphyry Copper Deposits, Lander County, Nevada.
Published in 1978, this is a scarce work, seldom seen or offered on Ebay, because mining companies gobble these things up. It consists of the 84-page book and the original map, plus many diagrams in the text.
This location is the same as the Phoenix mine that currently produces gold, copper and silver, but it was written before the phoenix mine developed. The West Ore Body was in the north end of the current mine and had high grade copper ores and extensive garnet skarn. This report details it all and is nice for having a more modern understanding of skarns, porphyries, and the chemistry of alteration processes. It is interesting and essential reading on the porphyry-skarn mineralizing environment. Written by Ted Theodore and David Blake. More important than ever since all the rocks in the West Ore Body area have since been consumed by later mining. An absolute classic.
