Kosovo PM says sorry after getting kids’ math puzzle all wrong

Kosovo’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti publicly apologized to students for making a mistake while solving a math problem during a school inauguration on Wednesday.
“Thank you for the warm welcome in your new school building. Your joy today made me long for school banks,” Kurti wrote in a Facebook post Wednesday evening. “But I have to say that now I’m glad I wasn’t a student at the time, because I wouldn’t have gotten a passing grade.”
Kurti’s comments came after a video of the algebra incident went viral on social media. The clip caught Kurti effortlessly solving a math equation in front of a classroom during the opening of a new school in Podujevo, in northeastern Kosovo.
After Kurti confidently finished the math riddle, everyone in the room applauded, with even the Minister of Education Arbërie Nagavci joining in.
There was just one issue: Kurti had the wrong answer. Uh-oh.
Social media users were quick to spot the mistake in Kurti’s solution, which should have been x=0 instead of x=5.
Reflecting on the error, Kurti added: “If I had thought about it for a moment longer, I would have realized the correct answer is x=0, but in that case, I don’t think I would have had the courage to pick up the chalk and write on the blackboard in your classroom. I apologize. The solution to that equation, as you know better than your prime minister, is x=0.”
